Saturday, October 18, 2003 Rashad De'Eric Johnson Ascends to the Heavens

Rashad De'Eric Johnson, the grandson of Jean Lawrence and the son of Jacqueline Evans and the late Rodney Johnson, was shot and killed Wednesday, October 15, 2003.  Rashad was only 20 years old. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at the Jenkins Funeral Home, 7474 Landover Road, Landover, Maryland.  The services are scheduled as follows:

Wake: 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Funeral 11:00 a.m.

A repast will be held at the Community Center located at 3111 68th Place, Seat Pleasant, Maryland 20743.

Marvina "Dakota" Benefield Slips the Surly Bonds of Earth and Touches the Face of God

Marvina "Dakota" Benefield, soulmate and Special Friend of James Cobb, died suddenly today, Sunday, October 5, 2003, at Walter Reed Army Hospital.  The Saluda Family will miss the fun loving  Dakota who provided the food for the Hospitality Suite and catered the Picnic at the 2003 Gibson Dozier Family Reunion. Funeral arrangements are pending.  As soon as it is available, information will be posted here.

Our hearts are broken, we share the grief and distress felt by James and all of the family. We pray the All Mighty God will comfort the bereaved family.  We will miss Dakota's beautiful smile.

The Gibson/Dozier Reunion Committee is having a raffle to raise money for scholarships, food and beverages for our Hospitality suite, and entertainment at the Saturday night banquet.  Tickets are three (3) for $5.00.  Prizes are a 27” color television, DVD player, and a VCR. Monday, June 23, 2003 U.S. Supreme Court upholds University of Michigan affirmative action admissions policies, finding that diversity in higher education is a compelling state interest as urged by family member Gregory Berry and his Howard University School of Law faculty colleagues in the amicus curiae brief filed they with court on February 10, 2003.  To read that brief, click here.
Friday, May 9, 2003 Family member Gregory Berry named Professor of the Year by the graduating class of Howard University School of Law.
Thursday, April 18, 2003 HERBERT E. CRAWLEY died last Thursday, April 18, 2003, at his home in Washington, D.C. after a long illness.  He leaves to cherish his memory a beloved wife, FRANCES BONHAM CRAWLEY, and four loving children: a son, Mitchell Crawley, of Dumfries, Virginia; and daughters, Brenda Owens, Audrey Bryant, both of Fort Washington, Maryland, and Yasmin Gray, of Suitland, Maryland.
